Welcome to the Pokémon League at Abington Games

Definition:
What is a league?
A Pokémon League is a casual, friendly environment for players of the Pokémon TCG to meet and play games.

Processes:
Who runs leagues?
Official Pokémon League Leaders coordinate leagues, and all Pokémon Leagues are hosted in approved kid-friendly locations like hobby shops, game stores, community centers and schools. The Abington Games Pokémon League is run by Michael Snapp.

How are leagues run?
Leagues run in seasons, and each season consists of several sessions. Points are awarded to players that play games (win or lose), or complete Pokémon related activities like picture coloring or word searches.

How long is a league season?
League seasons generally last between a month and six weeks. Most leagues meet once a week for a few hours. The Abington Games Pokémon League will meet every Saturday from 9:00 am till Noon .

What do I need to bring to a league?
Bring your own deck of Pokémon TCG cards to play with. Many players bring extra cards along to trade.

How much does a league cost to enter?
The Abington Games Pokémon League charges $5.00 per child, every session. This money will go towards a variety of things like: cleaning and use of the space every week, extra prizes for league attendees, and to cover other miscellaneous costs.

What can I win at a league?
Pokémon Organized Play supplies League Leader with promotional cards, stickers, and other items like badges to be awarded to players that achieve high point scores. These items are never sold at the League. Many of these prizes are specific to the League season and are unavailable after that League season is over.

The rules for our league are as follows:

Please understand that the Pokémon League is NOT a babysitting service; though every reasonable caution will be taken, Abington Games and/or the League Leader(s) CANNOT be held responsible for your child or his/her belongings while s/he attends the League. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

When necessary, the League Leader(s) will pair up players to make sure everyone who wishes to play gets to play. If a player chooses to decline a pairing, he/she will have to wait out a game before being paired again.

If a child is found stealing another League member's cards and/or merchandise from the store, s/he will be removed from the store and permanently banned from returning to the League.

If a child defies or disrespects a Gym Leader or the store employees, s/he will be asked to leave for the rest of that League session. Repeated offences can result in expulsion from the League.

Abington Games and/or the League Leader(s) are NOT responsible for missing or lost cards, and/or "bad" trades. If you have no intention of playing or trading a valuable card, please, DO NOT BRING IT TO THE LEAGUE.

Each member is responsible for his/her own cards and possessions…please, keep your belongings with you at all times!

The League is for the Pokémon Trading Card Game ONLY; please do not bring other trading card games to League and attempt to play/trade them during League time.

REMEMBER, Pokémon is supposed to be FUN. All League members must play and trade fairly and honorably!

"Trash talk," taunting, and/or vulgar language are not acceptable behavior at our League and are cause for disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion from the League.

The Spirit of the Game
As a game of skill, the Pokémon TCG is enjoyed for its complex strategies, entertaining characters, and atmosphere of friendly competition. While the objective of a Pokémon TCG tournament is to determine the skill level of each player involved, our ultimate goal is to ensure that every participant has fun. It is this attitude that Pokémon Organized Play wishes to emphasize during Pokémon TCG events.

Regardless of the size of the prizes on the line, adherence to the Spirit of the Game helps to ensure that all participants, including players, spectators, and event staff at a Pokémon TCG event, have an enjoyable experience. This spirit should guide the conduct of players as well as the tournament judges as they interpret and enforce the rules.

The Spirit of the Game is composed of the following tenets:
Fun: The Pokémon TCG is a game, and games are meant to be fun for all parties involved. When a game ceases to be fun, players find other things to do.

Fairness: Games cease to be fun when players break the rules to achieve victory. A player should prefer to lose a game than to win by cheating.

Honesty: Players of any game should strive to act honestly while playing that game. If a player inadvertently breaks a rule during a game and becomes aware of the error before his or her opponent or a judge, that player should make the opponent and the judge aware of the misplay.

Respect : Players, spectators, and staff should be treated with the same respect that players would expect for themselves. Distracting an opponent or a judge to gain advantage shows disrespect to everyone involved in a Pokémon TCG event.

Sportsmanship: Winning or losing with grace is vital to the enjoyment of a game. The desire to continue playing a game can be soured by players that berate their opponents after winning or losing a match.

Learning : Players should strive to help each other increase their Pokémon TCG play skills. It is not a player's responsibility to make his or her opponent's plays for that opponent. However, discussing strategies, offering deck tips, or constructively critiquing game play decisions after the match has been completed helps both participants to become better players.
